RossBeattieJuly2011#5DSB-ONE is voting in favour of keeping the Ross Beattie open after water damage force it closed.

The school has been closed since May 20th after it was discovered water had leaked behind the walls.  At the time, the board said the damage was extensive forcing the students to attend classes at TH&VS.

Board Chair, Doug Shearer says it’s important to have the school repaired for the students, parents and the community.

“The school is slated for an accommodation review in 2018 but we felt it’s important to have that proper review.  The cost to repair the school is not huge, it would keep the school functioning.”

The board currently has an RFP out for repair costs and Shearer says hopefully it comes in line their estimates otherwise they might have to rethink the idea.

Results of an online survey targeting parents of students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 garnered 121 responses. 48-percent of those who responded say if given the choice between moving to Timmins High or staying at Beattie, they would choose their children remain at Beattie.
