In early December, the Timmins Police revealed they are looking for a 5.36% budget increase in 2017.

On Wednesday, city council had their opportunity to look further into their asks—and it turned into a line-by-line dissection.

Councillor Joe Campbell took the chance to ask about what the police locally are looking to do to combat the fentanyl overdose crisis that he says will come here in due time.

Black says it’s too early to speak to it but that paramedics are highly trained to administer any antidote needed for someone suffering an overdose.

Councillor Rick Dubeau, meantime, got into lines such as expenditures like new uniforms and whatnot.  There was also chatter regarding how much money the service takes in.

That is an estimated amount, as the service doesn’t know how many people will come in to do criminal record checks, fingerprinting, etc.

And before things got heated between Dubeau and Mayor Steve Black—who was in the presenters chair to lobby council’s support with Police Chief John Gauthier—Deputy Chief Des Walsh was called in to explain things further.
