In an effort to streamline city council agenda packages more efficiently, Timmins is playing with the idea of moving meetings to Tuesday nights.

More specifically, the move would mean council would meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

The issue was first brought up by Councillor Rick Dubeau at a previous meeting because he wants more time to digest a council package before a meeting.

Previous efforts on the subject looked at releasing packages on Wednesday’s in anticipation of Monday meetings, but arguments of time constraints and late additions has resulted in looking further into it.

The latest recommendation came after looking at how other communities organize their council schedules.

Looking around at the other large city centres in Northern Ontario:

  • Sudbury: Twice a month on Tuesdays
  • North Bay: Biweekly meetings on Tuesdays
  • Sault Ste. Marie: Twice a month on Mondays
  • Thunder Bay: Twice a month on Mondays

They also looked at smaller communities.  CLICK HERE to read the full document.

Councillors seemed to respond to the request positively, and things are leaning towards this passing.

This will come back for formal approval next week.
