To better protect residents in the Delnite Road area, Timmins city council is requesting a report looking into the cost to extend fire protection services there.

Some councillors argue this would set a precedent for other rural areas that would want the same thing.

However, Councillor Joe Campbell retorts that this is actually a rather large subdivision with 67 homes.

He adds council wouldn’t be agreeing to spend money on the services, just gather a report to see the cost.

Campbell adds there’s opportunities to even look at a line near MacDonald Hill, which could potentially eliminate the need to install a new fire hydrant.

In the end, council agreed to get the report. This report could come back to council as early as their next meeting on August 22nd.
