Between a successful Capital Campaign, annual golf tournaments, radiothons and galas, the Timmins and District Hospital is still getting generous support from community partners.

So it’s not often that a six-figure cheque enters their doors by surprise.

Wednesday was the exception, as Tahoe Resources Canada was able to bring in a sizeable $160,000 donation to TDH.

Vice President of Operations Peter Van Alphen says an important part of their business is their employees and with the hospital being an important part of their lives, it’s a natural fit.

“We had the opportunity to put some money aside and make a contribution,” he said.

He adds in a media release that quality healthcare plays a significant role when attracting new employees to the Timmins camp, and they want to ensure workers have access to a state-of-the-art facility.

Chairperson for the TADH Foundation Board of Directors Pierre Lambert-Belanger adds it “speaks volumes” to Tahoe’s commitment to the region.

“It sends such positive ripples down the line to the foundation,” he adds.

As to what area of the hospital this money will go to is unknown at the moment. Lambert-Belanger says those decisions will be made soon, as officials continue to identify priorities.

“The Foundation’s in the midst of going through those priorities right now, in conjunction with the hospital board,” he says, “Significant funds like this will play an important role in the very near future.”

TADH Foundation Assistant Executive Director Patricia Gaudreau says this isn’t the first time Tahoe has contributed, as the mining company has donated under the Lakeshore Gold banner in the past.

She says they’ve also helped out by being sponsors at several other TADH events and is excited.
