The Whitney Fire Hall may have already found a new tenant after officials move over to the new EMS Complex at Northern College.

Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue made a request to use the hall for their work once the move happens.

They say establishing a partnership with the city to do so will ensure a quick response when they are called upon to conduct a search.

City council seemed receptive to the idea. Councillor Pat Bamford says there’s lots to be discussed, but thinks it’s worth venturing into.

Councillor Mike Doody praised the work TPSAR does in the community. He says bringing all players to the same table on this will be nothing but a positive.

Councillor Rick Dubeau was also in agreement, but took a different approach.

He wanted to look at what other options are out there for TPSAR in the meantime. And that could include usage of their potential future home.

“Each of the volunteer halls are quite often vacant,” he said, adding some of the halls could accommodate their training on a short-term basis.

Councillor Andrew Marks says a partnership would be a win-win.
