Timmins city councillor Rick Dubeau is facing a charge of “corruption of a municipal official.”

Police in Sault Ste. Marie arrested the 54-year old Thursday, stemming from allegations that Dubeau “approached a business in Timmins and solicited a sales transaction that would benefit him personally in exchange for his assistance as a member of the Municipal Council.”

They say this incident happened back on August 25th.

On September 7th, Timmins Police asked for assistance from their Sault Ste. Marie counterparts in conducting an investigation.

Dubeau will appear in a Timmins courtroom on November 7th.

Timmins Mayor Steve Black and council declined to comment on an ongoing investigation.

Dubeau states he is innocent of the charge, and looks forward to proving it in court.
