Day 2 of the NOJHL Showcase wasn’t a friendly one for teams in the region.

The Timmins Rock (4-8-0-1) lost 4-1 to the Espanola Express (1-11-0-0) in a battle of two teams at the bottom of their respective divisions.

Jared Hester scored the lone Rock goal. Brendan Bishop suffered the loss in net, making seven saves on 10 shots before getting the yank for Eric Jackson at the 7:16 mark of the second period.

The Rock outshot their opponent 54-19—including 24-3 in the third.

Timmins returns to action Sunday afternoon on the road in French River.

Meantime, the Cochrane Crunch fell 3-0 to the Soo Thunderbirds.

Shayne Battler made 33 saves in the loss for the Crunch, who are back in action Friday at home against Hearst.

Speaking of Hearst, the Lumberjacks lost 4-3 to the Soo Eagles Wednesday.

Jacy Fillion, Shadow Reuben and Samuel Bourdages scored for the Jacks, while Nicholas Dube made 23 saves in the loss.
