jamieson coxTimmins man Jamieson Cox is getting national recognition.

He’s nominated for Music Journalist/Blogger of the Year at the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, set to be held next month at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto.

The O’Gorman High School graduate started to go towards chemical engineering, which seemed more like the safe option, according to his mother Kelly.

She says writing was always an outlet for him, and down the line, it became his passion.

From there, Cox pitched some ideas, got contacts and his work started appearing on places like Pitchfork and Time Magazine.

Jamieson says he found out about the nomination through a friend’s tweets.

“I’m very amused (at how I found out), but also incredibly honoured,” he wrote on his personal Facebook page.

“I finally have a reason to buy a suit,” Jamieson continued with a sense of humour.

Kelly says this nomination is not only a credit to her son’s work, but credit to the cliché that “anything is possible.”

“It’s nice for (people) to see that you can really make it,” she said, “You can do something and be proud of where you came from, and he is…and I’m just so proud of him.”
