Kidd Reclaimed 2It’s a first of its kind partnership in the province between Kidd Operations and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

In preparation for the 2021 closure of the Kidd mine, Glencore and the OTF are establishing a Legacy Fund to the tune of $1 million.  The OTF and Glencore are each putting in $500,000 and will being giving out grants once the mine closes.

Mine Manger, Tom Semadeni, says they don’t like to just hand out money.  They prefer to help organizations give something back to the community.

“We’re providing the money to  organizations who are growing and filling a need in the community. The OTF is best suited to evaluate the community needs and find the best place to spend the money.”

Minister of Northern Development & Mines, Michael Gravelle says non-profits are a big part of this community and the province.

“The non-profit sector makes a huge difference in our communities all across the Province. Particularly in the Timmins area, the non-profit sector has a steady track record of impacting and enriching the lives of the many i the region.”

Semadeni is adding, the money could go quickly depending on the size of the projects.

The announcement was  two years in the making.
