Tune March 15th at 7pm when we play KISS ‘Destroyer’ cover to cover!  “Shout it Out Loud” … KISS ‘Destroyer’ turns 40!

In 1976, KISS was gaining popularity around America with their first three albums, but it wasn’t until March 15th and the release of “Destroyer” that they became a worldwide phenomenon.   Not only did “Destroyer” rise up on the US Charts, but it was also the first KISS album to chart in countries like Germany and New Zealand.  In just over a month the album became certified Gold by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and in November of that same year “Destroyer” became the very first KISS album to reach Platinum in the US.

Destroyer in Pop Culture

KISS impact on pop culture has been attributed to their willingness to put their band logo and brand on just about any product imaginable.  Songs from “Destroyer” are heavily featured in movies and television shows to this day.

The Recording Process

While working on “Destroyer,” KISS decided to bring in famous producer Bob Ezrin, who in the past worked with artists like Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd. Many of the members of KISS complained about Ezrin’s style of work.  Paul Stanley even compared working with Ezrin to being at a “Musical Boot Camp.”  It has been said that Bob would actually stop recording just to teach the band basic music theory and that the group were often yelled at if they messed up in any way.   Despite the working conditions the band took just over a month to record the album.
