timminspolice logoTwo individuals are now facing charges following the seizure of more than 200 oxycodone tablets over the weekend.

On March 12, 2016, police were called to a residence in relation to an unwanted person. Upon further investigation by platoon officers, police located and seized over 200 Oxycodone tablets and over $18,000 in Canadian currency. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $20,000.

In relation to this incident, Justin LAVOIE, 24, and Samantha LEACH, 20, of Timmins face charges of:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Sec. 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 (Sec. 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada)

Leach was released on a Recognizance of Bail with a court date of March 22, 2016, while Lavoie was held pending his bail hearing scheduled for March 14, 2016.

The Timmins Police Service is reminding the public about the dangers of misusing opioid drugs such as Oxycodone. The tablets, designed for patients as pain-management medication, can be extremely dangerous if used recreationally, and can lead to overdoses and even death. Individuals taking this medication are reminded to keep it in a safe place where it cannot be easily located. Residents are also reminded that unwanted or expired prescription medication can be dropped off anytime at any local pharmacy for disposal in an environmentally-friendly manner.
