Left_Liver_TransplantNorth Eastern Ontario has the top organ donating communities in the province.

Every community in the top ten is from Northern Ontario, with Lively coming in first with 58 per cent of health card holders being registered donors. Timmins comes in tenth place, with 49 per cent registration. Other communities in the top ten are Val Caron, Hanmer, and Garson, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sudbury and Nipissing.

The list is composed every three months, ranking all 179 communities based on donor registration rate, how many active registration drives there are and the increase in registered donors.

Timmins, for example, has 14,105 registered donors, with three registration drives. Since the last update, our rate has gone up by 0.3 per cent.

There are less than 350,000 registered donors in Ontario, out of a population of roughly 13.6 million.

Over 12 thousand people have received a lifesaving organ since 2003; with 1500 people are currently waiting.
