Timmins Police Official-Badge

The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section will be engaged in a 2 day distracted driving enforcement initiative starting tomorrow in the city of Timmins.

Traffic statistics clearly point out that distracted driving outpaces impaired driving as a root cause of motor vehicle collisions.

Timmins Police officers will be monitoring traffic at various intersections, paying extra attention to verify that no driver is using a cell phone or any other hand held device while driving.

Timmins Police Traffic Sergeant Tom Chypyha states ”The fines are significant and the demerit points are commensurate with the offence. Drivers who are found to be using a cell phone while driving can expect a stern but professional response from our officers.”

The collisions that result from distracted driving practices in Timmins are categorized as completely and absolutely preventable.

Local motorists are reminded of their legal and moral obligation to give the task of driving all the attention it requires. Reaching your destination safely means adopting a serious attitude to the operation of your vehicle.

It is hoped that this “zero tolerance” initiative will cause drivers to review their behaviors.

The priority, while driving, must be on safety and not entertainment.
