summer concert series

Tourism Timmins, in partnership with Midnight Express and title sponsors, James Toyota, La Caisse Populaire de Timmins and HGS, will be launching the 7th Annual Summer Concert Series on July 1 from the Hollinger Park.

Following the Canada Day launch of Summer Concert Series, this musical event will feature local talent or musicians with a connection to Timmins every Wednesday, starting July 6 to August 31, 2016 from 6pm to 9pm.

In addition, four concerts are scheduled for Bannerman Park on Thursday, July 14 and July 28, as well as August 11 and August 25 thanks to the generous support received from Goldcorp, Lakeshore Gold / Tahoe Resources, Rubino Petro Canada, Tisdale Plumbing & Heating, L Richards Moving, East End Service Centre, Porcupine Home Hardware, Scotia Bank, Giant Tiger, McIntyre Coffee Shop, and Roztek.

Summer Concert Series 2016, will feature 31 performing artists of different genres including blues, big band, country, rock, pop, progressive rock, adult contemporary, alternative and symphony.

A voluntary donation of non-perishable goods is encouraged again this year in support of both the Timmins and South Porcupine food banks. To date, more than 35,000lbs of food has been collected during the Summer Concert Series.

“Based on the success of last year’s event, I’m not surprised to see so many musicians apply to be considered for this year’s lineup,” said Luc Chalifoux of Midnight Express and co-host of the Summer Concert Series.

“There is a huge appetite from the community, and obviously from the musicians for this event,” added Mayor Steve Black. “The generous corporate support from so many dedicated businesses is commendable, and has allowed us to hire a minimum of two bands per week with some weeks seeing three performances. Just as importantly, the generous support has allowed Tourism Timmins and Midnight Express to grow the event by incorporating four shows from Bannerman Park. Last year the Summer Concert Series attracted thousands of people to Hollinger Park thanks in large part to the local media support that the event receives each year. We expect much of the same this year.”

“The public call to action inviting musicians to submit an application resonated with artists from Timmins and beyond. I expect that the visiting bands will attract residents from their respective communities and elsewhere to the Summer Concert Series and this will generate incremental business for the hospitality and retail sectors,” said Guy Lamarche, Manager Tourism and Events. “Last year, of the 191 surveys completed, 9% indicated that they were visiting the city, with some visitors from neighbouring communities indicating that the weekly concerts were the reason for their visit. Summer Concert Series is a great opportunity for our accommodation partners to develop and promote a shopping/concert getaway to Timmins, something that could attract a greater number of visitors from neighbouring communities.”
