What some would call the worst-kept secret in town might become public “very soon.”

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus has long been mentioned in conversation when it comes to who will replace Tom Mulcair as NDP Leader, but Angus is still getting his ducks in a row.

An annual event in Timmins for the local NDP riding association turned up big numbers, with many expressing their support on the matter to Angus himself.

Angus has long maintained that to go for a leadership bid, he needs to talk to locals first.

“People in the North are the ones who employ me, they’re the ones who vote for me,” he expressed.

The number of people at the event this weekend surprised Angus, adding the response was extremely positive and is helping him work towards a decision.

When it comes to taking on the task in a country as big as Canada, Angus says it’s a huge undertaking.

“I want to make sure that if I do it, we can do this right and we’ve got the support so certainly, Northern Ontario has to be rock solid,” he said.

“We’re going to continue to look at the possibility and we will be getting back to people very soon.”
