With warmer weather anticipated in the coming months, the Timmins Police Service is issuing an advisory to residents regarding pets observed in vehicles on warm days.

The warning follows a post circulating on social media stating that upon seeing a dog in a warm vehicle, residents cannot be charged if photo evidence is captured prior to breaking the vehicle’s window.

This is not the case, and police do NOT condone breaking a vehicle’s window.

There are other avenues that can be taken by residents who see an animal in a vehicle on a warm day, including calling animal protection services, or, outside of regular business hours, calling police. Police will be able to assist by locating the owner of the vehicle in question.

Once again, police do not advise residents breaking vehicles’ windows in the event of an animal inside, as this could lead to charges, including mischief.
