An honour for a Theriault teacher taken too soon.

Michael Patry will be posthumously inducted in the ÉCOLE SECONDAIRE CATHOLIQUE THÉRIAULT (ESCT) Arboretum this Wednesday (May 24) at 7:00pm in a ceremony at the Arboretum. If there’s rain, the ceremony will go from the school’s music room.

The Arboretum was created in 2000 by a ESCT parent advisory council with the goal of honouring distinguished individuals in the local francophone community.

They measure it with the criteria: demonstrated a clear impact in the education of the community’s youth, devoted themselves to the French catholic mission and is/was an ideal role model for today’s youth.

“Mr. Micheal Patry began his educational career at École secondaire catholique Thériault in 1998 where he taught in English Department. A natural leader, he became Department Head and had often produced and lead workshops for staff across our School Board. With his unique humanistic style, he was respected by his peers and much appreciated by his students,” the school says in a release.

“He gave a great deal of his time and effort towards our community,” the release continued, “Mr. Micheal Patry was involved with a variety of service clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Lions Club and president of the Timmins chapter of Crime Stoppers. Deeply passionate with wrestling, he would promote live wrestling shows in Timmins and give a healthy portion of the proceeds to help out student activities or regional charities.”

Those achievements will be commemorated with a tree planting, along with the unveiling of a plaque in the ESCT Arboretum.

Friends, colleagues and family are welcome to attend.

Patry passed away suddenly in late-February at the age of 42.
