MoneySense Magazine is out with the 2017 rankings of “Best Places to Live in Canada,” and Timmins didn’t exactly get a kind response.

After finishing 98th last year, the City with the Heart of Gold plummeted down to 225th this time around.

The list ranked a record 417 cities, towns and villages—almost double the amount than in previous years—capturing communities with populations with as little as 9,000 people.

At a glance, the magazine report estimates our local unemployment rate is around 5.8% and our crime rate has dropped 4% over the last five years.

The magazine adds Timmins fit in the top 25% when it comes to such things as affordable housing and “easy to walk, bike, take transit.”

Looking around the North:

  • Sudbury went from 84th to 169th
  • Temiskaming Shores saw a slight drop from 140th to 173rd
  • North Bay fell from 133rd to 255th
  • Sault Ste. Marie went from 165th to 263rd
