The secret has been quickly getting out over the last few years: the music industry can be a major benefit to cities far and wide.

Music Canada President and CEO Graham Henderson was the keynote speaker at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce’s Annual General Meeting Tuesday night. He says festivals bring people into the city to spend money.

And it’s not just the economy either.

He says the downtown feels much safer at night when the bars are open and the music is flowing.

He was up in front of Chamber members for about 40 minutes, and spoke afterwards about the goals of establishing a municipality as a music city.
