Some new software is coming to the Timmins Police that can tackle things like eCrimes much quicker.

Chief John Gauthier says they’re purchasing the device from Cellebrite—along with a one terrabyte hard drive—for about $30-thousand dollars.

He says with a warrant, this device can access a slew of digital devices for evidence.

This one in particular will focus on cell phones and tablets to start.

Gauthier says the move is the right one now, as they recently had a vacancy in the eCrimes unit and the staff have been overwhelmed with other things.

He adds the download of some information would go on for a while with devices sitting on the desk.

Now, when the Cellebrite unit comes in—the hope is by the end of the year—TPS will be able to extract data faster and return devices to where they need to go.
