Despite a three point night from captain Wayne Mathieu and out shooting the competition 60-39—including 27-9 in the 3rd period—the Timmins Rock (4-9-0-1) lost 4-3 to the French River Rapids (7-7-2-0) Sunday night.

Mathieu scored twice in the first period to pace the offense. But the Rapids scored four straight—two in the second period and two in the third—to seal the deal.

Stewart Parnell added one late to make things close, but the visitors couldn’t net the equalizer.

Eric Jackson made 35 saves in the loss—the fourth straight for the Rock, who are 1-5 overall in October.

It’s not going to get easier either, as the Rock continue their road trip Monday night in Powassan against the East Division-leading Voodoos (11-2-0-0).
