The Timmins and District Hospital has officially put their sleep lab under review.

The review process, they say, will allow for an informed discussion on what pressures the hospital faces with the lab, pursue any possible alternatives to keep it open and improve the financial sustainability.

“Both Timmins and District Hospital and the North East LHIN recognize that a Sleep Centre is a valuable service to residents of the City of Timmins and area, and to the medical community who refer patients to the service,” said TADH President and CEO Blaise MacNeil in a release.

“Both of our organizations are committed to exploring all avenues that will allow a Sleep Centre to remain open and sustainable, without compromising the excellent quality of care being provided.”

TDH adds they’ll be issuing RFPs to get information from similar sized hospitals in Ontario offering the service.

The hospital says closing it is an option they’re looking at to partially make up for a $1-million dollar budgetary shortfall.

“We have had positive initial discussions with TADH about the future of the Sleep Centre,” said Christine Leclair, Sub-Region Officer-Cochrane, with the NE LHIN. “The North East LHIN is looking forward to continuing to work together with TADH to identify potential solutions.”
