**TIMMINS PUBLIC LIBRARY MEDIA RELEASE**

We invite you to our TD Summer Reading Club Launch and Literacy Fair on Saturday June 16 at 10:30 a.m.!

What is the TD Summer Reading Club?

Summer has arrived and libraries across Canada are inviting kids and their families to “Get Your Summer Read On” by registering for the annual TD Summer Reading Club, Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests and all abilities. The free program is co-created and delivered by over 2,000 public libraries across Canada. Developed by Toronto Public Library, in partnership with Library and Archives Canada and generously sponsored by TD Bank Group. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories and is designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way – the key to building a lifelong love of reading.

About the program at the Library

Our summer reading program is geared to children between the ages of 3 and 13. It is a free bilingual program that offers children the opportunity to win prizes for reading over the summer. The TD Summer Reading Club is offered at the Main Library in Timmins and at the C.M. Shields Centennial Branch in South Porcupine. For families that cannot commit to attending meetings, ask us about our option to participate anytime, anywhere, from home, online, on the road or wherever your summer takes you.
How to participate Participants may register at either the Main Library in Timmins or at the C.M. Shields Centennial Branch in South Porcupine throughout the summer. See our summer calendar for a list of all our free TD Summer Reading Club events available on the Library Facebook page and website (tpl.timmins.ca). All of the summer programs are free thanks to our community sponsor Healthy Kids Community Challenge Timmins-Misiway.

Benefits of Summer Reading

Studies show that kids who keep reading throughout the summer do better when they return to school in the fall. The TD Summer Reading Club is an ideal way to keep kids engaged and entertained during the summer.

Where can I learn more?

Join us on Saturday, June 16 at the Timmins Public Library (Main Branch) for our TD Summer Reading Club Program Launch and Literacy Fair. The first half-hour will introduce readers to our summer reading program. The second-half will highlight our community literacy partners. We have many organizations in our community supporting literacy and we hope to connect participants with these amazing services. Children will receive a passport to be stamped at each booth and completed passports will be entered into a draw for prizes!
