**Porcupine Health Unit News Release**

With an increasing amount of inaccurate and misleading information on social media about healthy living, the Porcupine Health Unit is making some changes to their social media channels.

The former PHU Eats Facebook page has been revamped and is now including other health disciplines and health information. Its new name, PHUconnection, reflects the new focus.

Kaitlyn Comeau, public health dietitian says, “We are very excited to be refocusing and recommitting our social media page to include a broader range of topics in order to help people make the right choices about their health.”

The social media page can be found at www.facebook.com/PHUconnection/.
Health unit dietitians, nurses and health promoters will be posting on this page and monitoring it during business hours. Anyone can follow the page for accurate health-related information and events that are happening in our communities.
Comeau says, “Comments and questions are always welcome.”
Stephanie Gravel, a public health nurse, says, “These days, social media is an important mode of communication. Facebook is being used by many health units and other organizations as a quick way to spread reliable information.”
She adds, “But there’s a lot of false and misleading information on Facebook. We hope people will reach out to us with their healthy lifestyle-related questions.”
The Porcupine Health Unit is located in Northeastern Ontario, serving the entire Cochrane District and Hornepayne, in Algoma District. The main office is located in Timmins, Ontario, with branch offices in Cochrane, Hearst, Hornepayne, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Matheson, Moosonee, and Smooth Rock Falls.
