**CITY OF TIMMINS NEWS RELEASE**


Mayor Black is joined by Councillor Farrell, Amelie Perras, Administrative Assistant with the VON Diabetes Education Centre, and Christina Landers, Community Engagement Coordinator to proclaim November 2018 as Diabetes Awareness Month.

 

In 2015, 9.3 percent of the Canadian population reported having diabetes according to Stats Canada. This is a 1.5 percent increase since 2004, and there are more Canadians being diagnosed with diabetes every year, with an estimated increase of 12.1 percent by 2025. November has been designated as diabetes awareness month in Canada.

 

            The Porcupine branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Diabetes Education Centre in the 101 Mall is equipped with a highly trained team of professionals. At VON Diabetes Education Center you will be a part of a team of Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians and your Family Physician to provide you with the most up to date care for your diabetes.

 

Join their Center on World Diabetes Day November 14th from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. and meet the VON Diabetes Education Team as well as take home new information in Diabetes Management. You can find them in the 101 Mall, Second Floor in Suite 139.

 

On November 22, 2018 community partners will be coming together to host the 10th annual Timmins Diabetes Expo open to the public from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. with a presentation by the keynote speaker Dr. Ian Blumer.
