Tensions are still running high in Timmins a day after a lock down at multiple locations in the area.

On November 6th, shortly after 1 PM, the Timmins Police Service were alerted to a threat that was made towards O’Gorman High School here in Timmins. According to Timmins Police, school officials were alerted to a social media post that included threatening remarks. A lock down procedure was immediately initiated as police became concerned for the safety of students and faculty at the school. Timmins Police, upon arriving at the school, immediately addressed the safety of students and staff.

In a new release by the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, parents, guardians and students were asked to refrain from coming to the school or calling as the lock down was ongoing.

The Timmins Police Service alerted the media that the lock down was over just after 3 PM yesterday afternoon. Two young persons were arrested yesterday and brought into custody. The school was also searched by police. It’s not clear at this time if the arrests were directly related to the threatening posts that prompted the lock down. No one was injured in the incident at the school and the incident remained contained. Timmins police worked with school officials during the incident to ensure the safety of the students and faculty.

The students were allowed to leave the school premises at the end of the school day, and, according to police, the incident was contained and there are no further safety concerns for students or staff.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information about this investigation is asked to call the Timmins Police Service at 705 264 1201.
