It’s a busy weekend in Timmins with lots of activities and events for people and families to attend.

From Remembrance Day events to craft shows to Diwali Celebrations, here is a list of what you and the family can get up to this weekend.

Take Two Theatre Presents: The Odd Couple

The stage is set for Take Two Theatre’s production of The Odd Couple. The Neil Simon classic has been re-imagined starring women in the two lead roles. The show celebrated its opening night on Thursday night, and it also runs this Friday (Nov. 9th) and Saturday (Nov. 10th) night, starting at 530 PM.  The dinner theatre event is at the McIntyre Ballroom at the Community Centre. Tickets are $75 ($560 for a table of 8) for dinner, trivia and the Odd Couple live show. Tickets are available at Altered Reality or by contacting taketwotheatre@gmail.com. Youth Wellness Hub’s A Day for the Arts

Youths aged 12-25 can be a part of A Day for the Arts this Saturday, November 10th 12-9 PM at École publique Renaissance. Bring your gifts and talents in music, dance, painting, drawing, photography. They will have lots of supplies and you are welcome to bring your own instruments! They will also have open gym, lots of free food and their chill space available. Crafternoons at C.M. Shields Centennial Library

From 1 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, Nov. 10th, head to the Centennial Library in South Porcupine for Crafternoon. Whether you knit, crochet, embroider or make jewelry, it’s always great to sit with others and share ideas while working on your projects. You’re invited to bring your current project to the library and enjoy an afternoon with like-minded individuals. Crafternoon takes place at 99 Bloor Ave. in South Porcupine from 1-4 PM on Saturday, November 10th. For more information, go to the Timmins Public Library website. 

 

LitWits Youth Reading Club

LitWits is a literary youth book club for children ages 9 to 12.  This five week bilingual program is complete with fun weekly activities based on a literacy theme. This week’s club takes place on Saturday, November 10th from              2-4 PM. Please call to register as space is limited at 705-360-2623 ext. 8519. Diwali at Northern College

Northern College is hosting a Diwali Celebration this Saturday. Diwali is a celebration of India’s festival of lights. Organized by the Association of India and NCSA Timmins, the event takes place on November 10th from 5-10 PM. Attendees can enjoy musical performances from Punjab dance group Bhangra, Gidha, Dandiya/Garba, Bollywood Hindi Song and dance, plus comedy, musical instruments, singing and performances from local Canadians. Tickets are $10 or $17 at the door. Lions Club Christmas Craft Show

The 16th annual Christmas Craft Show now has double the space, meaning double the gifts, while still supporting the Schumacher Lion’s Club. Just Pearl It! items will be there, along with a large selection of other crafts and handmade items from  local crafters. The Christmas Craft Show starts on Friday, November 9th at 5 PM, and runs Saturday, November 10th from 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, November 11th from 10 AM to 4 PM. 101 Mall Christmas Craft Show

Taking place on Saturday, November 10th from 10 AM to 3 PM, this craft show is hosted by Jump City and will be in the basement of the 101 Mall. Remembrance Day Ceremonies and Events

There will be two ceremonies for Remembrance Day in Timmins this year, marking the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice. On Sunday, Nov. 11 there are Remembrance Day services at the Timmins Cenotaph, as well as the South Porcupine Legion.

A parade is marching from the Timmins Armoury to the Timmins Cenotaph at Hollinger Park starting at 1045 AM with the ceremony starting at 11 AM. Organizers are expecting about 600 people to be in attendance.

At the South Porcupine Legion Branch 287, 46 Legion Drive, the parade forms at 1030 AM and starts at its procession at 1040. The ceremony is at 11 AM. There will be a memorial service upstairs at the Legion.
