You can get some Christmas shopping done, eat pancakes with a robot, or meet Batman this weekend at some of the events happening around the city. Here’s a list of some of the things you can check out this weekend.

 

Christmas Tree Lighting

The community Christmas Tree will be lit this Saturday, Dec. 8th at the Timmins Museum: NEC. From 5 PM-7 PM you can enjoy some hot chocolate, mail your letter to the North pole, and say hi to Santa! The Timmins Symphony Orchestra Choir will be singing Christmas Carols to add to the Christmas spirit. The tree lighting will take place in the front yard of the Timmins Museum.

 

Pet Pictures with Santa

The animals need some Christmas attention too! Santa is ready to meet some fur babies at YMCA Timmins this Saturday, Dec. 8th, and Sunday, Dec. 9th. A $10 donation gets you a DVD with photos of your pets/family with Santa, and the satisfaction of helping local animals in need this holiday season. So bring your beloved pets to YMCA Timmins this weekend from 12 PM to 4 PM for a photo with Santa.

 

Neo Laser Tag’s Kid’s Day

Neo Laser Tag is inviting kids and families to join them for their Kid’s Day on Saturday, Dec. 8th at the McIntyre Ballroom. From 9 AM-4 PM, there will be games, crafts, inflatables, popcorn, cotton candy and door prizes. Admission is $10 per child, and you can find out more by calling 705-531-4824.

 

Timmins Public Library Author Visit: Terry Lynn Johnson

The author of the Survivor Diaries, Terry Lynn Johnson, will be at the Timmins Public Library this Saturday, Dec. 8th at 10:30 AM. Come say hi to the children’s adventure book author, enjoy her book talk and get a copy of one of her books signed. Terry Lynn Johnson has written the Survivor Diaries books, as well as Ice Dogs, Falcon Wild and Sled Dog School.

 

Heroes for Hire Toy Drive

The Timmins Police Service is organizing their annual Heroes for Hire Toy Drive this Saturday, Dec. 8th at the Bargain Shop in Timmins from 10 AM-2 PM. In partnership with the TPS, Victim’s Services and The Bargain Shop, this event raised $4000 worth of toys last year for kids and families in need. This year kids can come say hi to local super heroes Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Super-Girl, as well as a Minion. Const. Rick Lemieux will be attending the Toy Drive this year, so come by, hang with a superhero and help raise money to make Christmas special for kids and families in the community.

 

Science Timmins Christmas Party

Science Timmins is hosting a Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 9th. You can bring the family and enjoy some delicious pancakes served with their Pancake Bot, build in Santa’s STEAM workshop, and say hi to Santa himself, who will be making an appearance. Santa’s Workshop Part 1 runs from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by a meeting with Santa from 11 AM-12 PM. Then it’s time for some pancakes from 12 PM-1 PM. Santa’s workshop will re-open for Part 2 from 1 PM-2 PM. It’s $5 for Science Timmins members and $8 for non-members. Spots are limited so call 705-268-4543 to book a spot at the most inventive Christmas party of the season.

 

Northern Markets Timmins’ Vendors Market

This is Northern Markets’ last market of the year, so make sure you stop by Schumacher Lions Club on Sunday, Dec. 9th and check out the goods on sale by local vendors. There is always something for everyone. Parking is free, as is admission. Plus there will be a free draw for a mystery basket. So come to Schumacher Lions Club, downstairs from the McIntyre Restaurant, from 10 AM-4 PM this Sunday, Dec. 9th and check out the Vendors Market.

 

Christmas Craft Show

The Christmas Craft and Vendor show is taking place at the Porcupine Mall this weekend. The Craft Show runs on Friday, Dec. 7th from 10 AM-7 PM, Saturday, Dec. 8th from 10 AM-4 PM, and on Sunday, Dec. 9th from 10 AM-3 PM. There will be something for everyone at this Christmas craft show, so come check out handmade goods from local vendors at the Porcupine Mall this weekend.

 

Coping with Test and Exam-Related Stress and Anxiety

Not everyone is free to enjoy Christmas fun this weekend. Some students will be studying for upcoming end-of-term exams. With exams comes stress and anxiety, and this workshop will help youths and adults cope with that stress. The workshop looks at healthy strategies for dealing with stress, tips on managing test and exam-related stress, and online resources and tools to help cope. Presented by Chandra Ciccone, this seminar is $45 and takes place at the Movement Studio on Saturday, Dec. 8th from 1-2 PM. To register for a spot, call 705-262-2918.

 

Youth Wellness Hub

Don’t miss the last Youth Wellness Hub of 2018. This Saturday, Dec. 8th, it’s Cappuccinos and Catan. From 12-9 PM at O’Gorman High School, you can learn how to play, or show your skills, in games like Catan, Sushi Go, Forbidden Desert and lots more. There will also be cookie decorating, making your own fun warm drink, and, as always, lots of food. There will also be fitness classes from 1-4 PM and an open gym. So don’t miss the last Hub of the year at O’Gorman High school this Saturday.
