**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from an incident that occurred at a local grocery store on Monday, December 31st.
A local man is alleged to have taken i

tems from store shelves and left the store without paying for them.

Upon being confronted by a loss prevention officer, the altercation became assaultive in nature.

The suspect fled the area after the items had fallen to the ground during the altercation.

The responding Timmins Police Service officer was able to identify the suspect based on in store video of the event.

The suspect was eventually located and arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result of the incident, Michael LAPORTE, 27, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail To comply with Probation Order (2 counts) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
