**KIRKLAND LAKE OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On January 18, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario. The MSV failed to stop for police and fled the area.  

The MSV was located a short while later and in an attempt to stop the MSV, a road block was set up on Goodfish Road. The operator of the MSV attempted to maneuver around a parked, unoccupied cruiser, however the MSV collided with it and fled the scene again.  

As a result of the police investigation into this collision, the OPP have charged a local man.  

Jordan LEGACY, age 26, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has been charged with the following:  

  • Failure to Stop After Accident, contrary to section 320.16(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC,
  • Operation While Prohibited, contrary to section 320.18 of the CC,
  • Fail to Display Registration Number, contrary to section 2(7) of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act (MSVA),
  • Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle, Trail Permit Not Issued, contrary to section 2.1(1) of the MSVA,
  • Drive – No Insurance, contrary to section 12(1) of the MSVA,
  • Speeding – In Excess of 50 Km/h on Highway Where the Posted Limit is Greater than 50Km/h, contrary to section 14(1)(b)(i) of the MSVA,
  • Fail to Stop for Police Officer, contrary to section 17.1(1) of the MSVA, and
  • Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle While Licence Suspended, contrary to section 17.1(11) of the MSVA.

 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on March 21, 2019.
