**PORCUPINE SKI RUNNERS NEWS RELEASE**


Porcupine Ski Runners was well represented at the Ontario Cup at the Nipissing Nordic Center this past weekend collecting ten top three finishes over the two day event. Kristen Kornell in the Junior Girls placed 5th in the 7.5 km classic and 11th in the 7.5 km freestyle while Xander Frappier was 31st in the 6 km classic and 13th in the 3 km freestyle.

In the girls 2005/06 category Julia Vodusek collected a bronze medal in the 3km classic and a silver medal in the 3 km freestyle. Teammate Jade Shelton, also in the girls 2005/06 category collected a bronze medal in Sunday’s 3 km freestyle and 4th in the 3 km classic. Also in the girls 2005/06 category Brielle Charette was 5th in the 3 km classic and 8th in the freestyle with Marissa Pladzyk placing 6th in both the classic and freestyle events. In the boys 2005/06 category, Wil Little was 5th in the 3 km freestyle and 8th in the 3 km classic, Dylan Frappier was 9th in the 3 km classic and 8th in the freestyle event with Rowan Stinson placing 11th in the classic and 9th in the freestyle.

In the girls 2007/08 year of birth categories, Saturday’s classic event sisters Chantal and Nicole Kukulka and Chloe Young were 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively with teammate Claire Young placing 6th. In Sunday’s freestyle Chloe Young captured the gold medal with Nicole Kukulka placing 2nd, Chantal Kukulka 4th and Claire Young 5th. In the girls 2009/10 year of birth, Olivia Vodusek collected two gold medals in the 1.5 km classic and 1.5 km freestyle.

Coach David Vodusek said, “I’m very proud of our young team and we have a lot of talented and hardworking athletes. We’re looking forward to representing the PSR at the Ontario Championship at the North Bay Nordic Ski Club on February 23rd and 24th.”
