**KIRKLAND LAKE OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), the North East Region OPP Canine Unit (K9) and the North East Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant on Taylor Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario.  

Police seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, opioids, illicit cannabis, various prescription medication with an estimated street value of $5,200. Also seized was a large quantity of unmarked cigarettes and Canadian currency.  

As a result of the police investigation, the OPP has charged three people.  

Michael MCPHEE, age 49, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, is charged with the following:  

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (two counts), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,   
  • Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (two counts), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of Illicit Cannabis, contrary to section 8(1) (b) of the Cannabis Act (CA).
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000., contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Possess Unmarked Cigarettes for sale, contrary to section 29(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA).

 

Leatha Anne MORRELL-HANSEN, age 50, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, is charged with the following:  

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (two counts), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,   
  • Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (two counts), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
  • Possession of Illicit Cannabis, contrary to section 8(1)(b) of the CA.  

 

Clayton MCRAE, age 38, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, is charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

 

All three accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on April 4, 2019.
