**CITY OF TIMMINS NEWS RELEASE**

This weekend’s Mushkegowuk Cup, anticipated to attract 52 teams and hundreds of family members and fans, promises to have a significant economic impact on the City of Timmins.

Earlier this week, the Mushkegowuk Council released figures on the projected economic impact to the City of Timmins and its surrounding communities due to this weekend’s 12th Annual Mushkegowuk Cup. The projections were prepared by economist Rick MacLeod Farley with MacLeod Farley & Associates, and document the significant economic impact created by this annual four-day hockey tournament.

The key findings from the economic impact projections include:

– $3.7 million of direct spending within the City of Timmins for accommodations, food, shopping, etc.
– $4.1 million of direct spending combined for Timmins and the region
– $5.1 million total economic impact within the City of Timmins (direct, indirect and induced)
– $5.7 million total economic impact combined for Timmins and the region (direct, indirect and induced)

“These economic impact figures document the significant benefits we bring to the City of Timmins when we choose to bring our annual Mushkegowuk Cup tournament to town,” said Grand Chief Jonathon Solomon. “Our Mushkegowuk Cup 2019 will boost the Timmins and regional economy. The positive impacts will benefit the hotels, stores, arenas, shopping centres and many other businesses. This single tournament is but one example of the huge positive economic impact our communities bring to Timmins and the region.”
