Last Friday, March 22nd, every minute mattered during the 12 hour KiSS 99.3 radiothon at the Timmins and District Hospital.

The all-day fundraiser was successful in raising $52,000 for the emergency department at the local hospital. The funds will be going towards equipment and software upgrades and the future renovation of the department.

KiSS 99.3’s morning host, Mark Kinsman was hosting the radiothon all day on Friday, from 6 AM to 6 PM. He said the entire experience was rewarding.

“There’s no word to describe it than absolutely truly magical,” said Kinsman, “[…] We had visions for about $15,000, maybe $20,000. But then we doubled that total, thanks to the generosity here in the city.”

The day of fundraising featured special guests, stories from doctors, nurses and hospital staff.

There were large donations from a number of organizations in Timmins who then challenged similar organizations to match or better their donation. Discover Fitness got that trend started by donating $500 and challenging other gym facilities to do the same. Tisdale Plumbing and Heating also donated $500 and asked other plumbing and heating companies to do the same or better.

Anonymous donors challenged others as well. A physician challenged other physicians to make a donation after he donated $1000. Timmins Hyundai also donated $500. Kidd Operations took the cake with a generous donation of $5,000. All funds raised are going directly to helping the emergency department upgrade their equipment and make changes to the ER that will save time and treatment.

The people of Timmins proved their Heart of Gold title on Friday, and the TADH got donations from other cities as well.

“They always say it’s the City with the Heart of Gold,” said Kinsman, “but we had help from cities right across the Highway 11 corridor. Donations coming in as far as Hearst, Kapuskasing, Moonbeam, Iroquois Falls. It truly was a magical day.”

You can still make a donation to the Timmins and District Hospital here.
