The Timmins Police Service was called to the scene of a theft at the Timmins LCBO outlet which occurred during the afternoon hours of Sunday, April 28th.  Responding Timmins Police Service officers completed the initial phases of the investigation and determined that a man and a woman had made off with a number of items from store shelves without making any effort to pay for the said items.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and were identified and located a short time later by the Timmins Police Service.
It is further alleged that during the arrest process, the male suspect engaged in a physical altercation with the investigating officers of the Timmins Police Service.

During the alleged altercation, the female suspect is alleged to have taken advantage of the situation and fled the scene despite being under lawful arrest.  She was located a short while later and taken into custody along with her male counterpart. Items involved in the alleged theft were found on her person once the arrest procedure had been completed.

As a result of this incident, Michael SMALL, 28, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– 3 counts of Assault Police Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Resist Police Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Samantha KNAPAYSWEET, 27, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Escape Lawful Custody contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both accused persons remain in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
