**TIMMINS POLICE NEWS RELEASE**

For obvious safety reasons linked to rising water levels of the Mattagami River, a portion of McChesney Road has been closed, as of yesterday afternoon, by the Timmins Police Service.
This measure was deemed necessary by the Timmins Police Service in consultation with the City of Timmins – Public Works Department, City of Timmins Fire Department and the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority.
The affected area has been clearly marked with road closures signs (local traffic only) which have been placed just south of the school bus entrance on McChesney Road.
Other similar barricades and signage (road closure – local traffic only) have been erected prohibiting traffic at the back entrance of Timmins High and Vocational School, commonly known as Auxilia Avenue.
This perimeter is in place to prevent motorists from placing themselves at undue risk by entering into unsafe areas and proceeding onto this closed section of roadway with their vehicles.
This road closure is expected to remain in full effect for the next few days as the situation is being actively monitored by safety officials.
The objective of this road closure is to preserve public safety.
Full compliance is required of all motorists until the situation improves and the roadway can be re-opened.
