The Timmins Police Service is investigating a single vehicle ATV collision
which occurred during the evening hours of Monday, June 17th ,on an unorganized ATV trail off of Norman Street in Timmins. A  24 year old Timmins man was transported to the Timmins and District Hospital with a
series of serious injuries, not the least of which, a serious head injury, that he suffered
in the collision.

He has since been transported to a Sudbury area hospital due to the severity of injury.
The investigation is being undertaken by the officers with the Timmins Police Service –
Traffic Section who are in the midst of trying to determine the root cause of the collision
with the deployment of the Timmins Police – Collision Recreationist.

As well, a heavily damaged 2014 BRP ATV has been recovered by the Timmins Police
Service so that it can be subjected to a thorough mechanical inspection in keeping with
this ongoing investigation.

Initial findings indicate that the operator of the ATV failed to adequately maneuver over
a berm resulting in loss of control and a subsequent collision resulting in serious injury.
The Timmins Police Service can confirm that the operator of the ATV was not wearing a
helmet at the time of the collision.

The vehicle came to rest a considerable distance from the location of the operator
indicating that speed may be a contributing factor in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
