**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

In light of the enacted by-law effectively reducing the speed limit within and around the connecting link construction zone in the area of Rae Hill, the Timmins Police is issuing a Traffic Advisory to inspire compliance.
The safety of the motorists travelling through the affected area, as well as the safety of the construction crews working in this area, is enhanced when the posted reduced speed limit is observed and followed.

A 3 vehicle collision which occurred during the late afternoon hours of Sunday, June 23rd at the bottom of Rae Hill is directly attributable to speed and a lack of attention.
Drivers are urged to devote their full attention to the cognitive task of operating their vehicles as they approach the construction site as well as while making their way through the zone.

It is further recommended that traffic approaching the construction zone from either direction assume the lane to be traveled in well in advance of entering the zone. Last minute lane changes have resulted in several near miss situations, each one being deemed to be preventable in nature.
The Timmins Police Service will be monitoring this site for speed violations with swift enforcement action to follow when any violations are observed. From a public safety point of view, the required cooperation of the motoring public is appreciated.
