Northern College and District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) are pleased to
announce to announce a join meeting, to be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
This inaugural meeting, which will include the governing boards of each educational body is evidence of
a growing partnership designed to increase educational and institutional cooperation between the two
facets of the provincial educational system.

“From time-to-time college administration has had occasion to make presentations to the School Board,
and certainly college and school board administrators meet with some regularity,” stated Northern
College President, Dr. Fred Gibbons. “However to the best of my knowledge, this will be the first
meeting of the two respective governing bodies.”

Both DSB1 and Northern College share similar geographic catchment areas alongside mutual
educational goals, aiming to provide Ontario’s northeast with high quality, accessible and inclusive
educational programming that follows students from their first steps into a classroom to the day they
graduate from their post-secondary studies.

“We look forward to expanding our partnership with Northern College,” stated Bob Brush, Chair at
DSB1. “By working together closely, we can continue to support a strong workforce for the North and
create a positive future story for our students.”

The meeting, hosted at Northern College by its Board of Governors and will include a tour of its Timmins
Campus facilities to better connect primary and secondary school officials with what post-secondary
education close to home has to offer.
The closed session board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in room A106 at Northern College’s Timmins
Campus followed shortly after by an open session at 6:30 p.m.
