The Timmins Rock have been rolling, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise… Heading into this season, the Rock were supposed to be one of the most dominant teams around the NOJHL. Since the beginning of the season they have put the entire league on notice. The way they carried themselves around the arena during training camp and pre season, they had that swagger to them, and their body language basically said “we’re coming”. Well they’ve showed up and aren’t going anywhere. The Rock currently have a 12-1-1 record having suffered a loss to the Hearst LumberJacks and Powassan Voodoos. Since their last loss they have looked forward and have kept their foot on the pedal.

They took their momentum with them and brought it to Michigan for the NOJHL Showcase. They had a bit of a challenge taking on the Rayside Balfour Canadians in game one, but were able to get passed them after putting up a good team effort, and because their goaltender stood on his head. Vance Meyer was brought in as the backup for the Rock, but has put up numbers that a starting goalie would normally have. Meyer is now 6-0 on the season with 2 shutouts, a 0.954 Save Percentage and a 0.99 Goals Against Average. He has been one of the main contributors to the Rock’s success this year and if he keeps this up, the Rock could end up having the most dominant goaltending duo in the league.

On Wednesday, the Rock were taking on the Elliot Lake Wildcats and showed once again why they’re one of the best teams in the league. They beat the Wildcats 8-2, had 7 different goal scorers, and also out shot the Wildcats 67-11! With a great performance in Michigan and sweeping their competition in the Showcase; The Rock who are currently ranked 8th in the CJHL (Canadian Junior Hockey League) will be staying on the road until October 25th and have a tough schedule ahead of them. They’ll take on the Powassan Voodoos on Saturday, then they head over to French River to take on the Rapids, and to wrap up their road trip they’ll take on the Hearst LumbeJacks.

It’s only October and the Rock already have the city thinking this could be the year to win it all. It’s a good start to the season… They’re on a lengthy winning streak, they’re only trailing the number one seeded Voodoos by one point, and they’ve won big games like the Showcase they just played in. The Rock know there is still a lot of work to be done, but if they keep this pace up they’ll be just fine. Their next home game is on October 25th against the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
