The Timmins Rock took on the Cochrane Crunch for the first time this season, and they revamped a rivalry.

The Rock were looking to extend their winning streak to four games meanwhile, the Crunch were looking to get a second straight win.

Both teams came out flying early on in the first period. Team’s were exchanging scoring chances early on, but the Rock quickly took over the game and managed to draw first blood. Aidan Milne, opened the scoring for the Rock after receiving a beautiful pass from Tyler Schwindt, and after that goal the Rock did what the Rock are known to do… they took full control of the game.

The Rock power play had not been effective for most of the season, but in the last few games the special teams have been lethal for the Rock. Josh Dickson, has had a great month of November and is having one of his best season’s so far in the NOJHL. Dickson managed to pick up a power play goal after going top cheddar (Top Shelf) on the Crunch goaltender. That was his 15th goal of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Crunch were now down 2-0 and looking for a spark. Here’s where the rivalry part kicked in… Riley Robitaille, is known for his big on ice presence and his two way game, but in this game he showed everyone that he is not a player to mess with. Things got chippy near the end of the first frame and Robitaille was called upon by Crunch defenceman Jaden Wake. Robitaille answered the bell, and the next thing you know Wake gets “one punched” and the scrap is over.

The second period begins and the Rock come out with an insane amount of speed! They controlled most of the play and were once again rewarded for it. Karter Renouf, has also had a good month of November and his hard work paid off in this contest. He managed to score the Rock’s third goal after driving hard to the net and poking it past the Crunch goaltender. The second period came to an end and the Rock were leading it 3-0, and out shooting the Crunch 31-12!

The third period began and the Rock did not take their foot off the gas pedal. They managed to draw 4 penalties in the final 20 minutes, and eventually scored one last goal on a 4 on 3 after a highlight reel passing play. All four Rock players touched the puck before it was put in the net by Derek Seguin.

The game ended with a 4-0 Rock win, and in that win Ty Masternak picked up his fourth shutout of the season! That ties him with his teammate Vance Meyer for most shutouts in the NOJHL for the 2019-20 season.

The three stars of the game were: Josh Anderson (1) who played in his 100th NOJHL game, Ty Masternak(2) 16 save shutout, and Aidan Milne (3) scored one goal.

This was a complete team effort for the Rock and they will look to wrap up the month on a winning note. They take on the Hearst LumberJacks on Friday November 29th in Hearst, and then they will go head to head once again on December 1st in Timmins.
