**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a theft and assault related offences stemming from a shoplifting incident which occurred during the late afternoon hours of Friday, January 3rd at a west end retail store.

The subject was observed shoplifting items from the retail outlet and was confronted by a loss prevention officer.
The subject displayed a knife and threatened the loss prevention officer while dispensing with the stolen items in the store’s parking lot.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers located the subject in an auto salvage yard located a short distance from the original scene and arrested the suspect.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Joel LINKLATER, 21, of Timmins, has been charged with:
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Utter Threats – Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
