The Timmins Rock, were in Kirkland Lake last night taking on the Gold Miners, and they were looking for a big two points.

The Rock are in a race for first in the NOJHL against the Powassan Voodoos and in order to keep up the Rock would need a regulation win. Well, they pulled it off; The Rock secured a 4-0 win and it was an all around team effort.

The Rock struck early in the first period after Rock defensemen Josh Anderson set up Josh Dickson for his 21st of the season. The Rock then had momentum, but the Gold Miners who were looking to play spoiler kept things close and the score was 1-0 after the first 20 minutes.

Head on over to the second, the Rock needed to keep their foot on the pedal and look for another goal. Tyler Schwindt, netted the game’s second goal within the first 10 minutes, and the Rock were now in command once again out shooting their opponent in the first two periods.

The second period is about to wind down, and the Rock were looking for another goal before the end of the frame and they got one. Zachary Fortin who is still fairly new to the Rock blue line, riffled one from the blue line and Cameron Kosurko was in front of the net for the tip and made it 3-0.

Timmins Rock Captain, Derek Seguin had been out of the lineup for quite some time as he was dealing with personal matters, and made his return to the lineup last night. Seguin, wasted no time to get back into it and make an impact as he put in the games fourth and final goal.

The game ends and the Rock not only won 4-0, but Rock goaltender Ty Masternak picked up his sixth shutout of the season which ties his own NOJHL record. The Rock scored four goals on 39 shots meanwhile, Masternak managed to stop all 23 shots he faced!

This win, now sees the Rock once again tied with the Voodoos for first place in the NOJHL… both have 70 points! The Rock now have a home and home series against the Cochrane Crunch starting on Friday. They’ll be back on home ice on Saturday February first as they’ll host the Crunch.
