The Timmins Rock, needed to pull off a win against the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, to get back on top of the NOJHL standings, and they did by pulling off a dominant 6-0 win! That win, now puts them one point ahead of the Powassan Voodoos. A win on Thursday would give the Rock a three point lead over the Voodoos which could be a difference maker once the regular season is over. That’s why the win over the Gold Miners was so big.

But the score isn’t the story of the game… Rock goaltender Ty Masternak, recorded his seventh shutout of the season! Masternak held the record for most shutouts in the NOJHL after getting six of them last season, and after last night… well he broke his own record by stopping all 22 shots he faced!

The Rock, put their depth on display once again as they had six different goal scorers last night and one of them was Gabby Kioki, who got the monkey off of his back by scoring his first as a Timmins Rock. The other goal scorers were: Cameron Kosurko, Aidan Milne, Derek Seguin, Stewart Parnell, and Josh Dickson.

The game didn’t see too many penalties, but it did have it’s physical moments like this hit by Rock Defensemen Josh Anderson:

In that 6-0 win the Rock managed to out shoot the Gold Miners 29-22, which if you’ve seen shot totals from other games… that is considered low.

The Rock now turn their attention to the Voodoos; If you thought the last few wins for the Rock were big, well this one would be huge!

Here’s how their previous meetings have gone:

Sep 15, Voodoos 5-4 Rock OT

Oct 19, Rock 3-4 Voodoos SO

Dec 6, Voodoos 1-4 Rock F

Jan 11, Rock 4-1 Voodoos F

Jan 25, Rock 0-1 Voodoos F

This will be the sixth time these two teams meet this season, and will meet two more times before the end of the season. So every win counts. Tickets for Thursday night’s game are available online at TimminsRock.Com, and you might want to grab them while you can because this is a game you won’t want to miss.
