The Playoffs are set to begin tonight. The Timmins Rock, are set to host the Hearst Lumberjacks in game one of 7.

Before the crazy playoff ride begins, the NOJHL has released the names of this year’s award recipients.

Timmins Rock Forward Josh Dickson, has been named this year’s most improved player, and looking at his numbers… It’s well deserved.

Dickson, finished seventh on the team’s points leaders list last year with 31 points. This year, he finished in the number one spot! He recorded 26 goals, 31 assists in 55 games played!

Timmins Rock Captain Derek Seguin, was named Top Defensive Forward of the year. Seguin, may have finished second on the points leaders list this season, but while he was producing offense, he was also there to help out his team on the penalty kill and whenever his defensemen needed him to bail them out. Most people would describe Seguin as a good two way player, and this award proves them right.

The Goalies, have been brick walls all season and created a buzz around the league for most of the season. Ty Masternak, picked up the award for lowest Goals Against Average. He played 32 games, and managed to finish the regular season with a 1.66 G.A.A. He stopped 708 of the 760 shots he faced, beat his own shutout record of six and recorded eight this season, and finished with a .932 SV%!

Both Masternak and Vance Meyer, have been solid this season. So, the Rock also managed to be awarded the lowest goals against award. In 56 games played, the Rock managed to only get scored on 100 times!

Josh Anderson, was named to the NOJHL’s First All-Star team for a second straight year. Ty Masternak and Head Trainer for the Timmins Rock Lacey Rigg have been named to the Second All-Star team.

At the beginning of the season, the Rock had the league on notice… everyone knew that on paper the team had the players to get them to go all the way and win the NOJHL title. These awards certainly prove that the Rock have what it takes to win… Now all they have to do is go out and do it.

Puck Drop for tonight’s game, will be at 7:00pm and tickets to both game one and game two are available online at TimminsRock.Com. and to see the full list of award recipients you can click here.
