After 8 hours of driving and over 10 pit stops, Blue Jays Central/Sportsnet Host Jamie Campbell arrived at the Timmins and District Hospital to deliver some much needed PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

“It was an emotional drive for me, it really was. I can’t deny my heart was kind of pumping as I pulled into town and I saw that first welcome to Timmins sign because, it’s literally been 35 years since I’ve been here.” -Said Campbell

Campbell always said he wanted to come back to Timmins but he just never really had the chance to until now.

“The first notification I got was from Hayley Wickenheiser (Former Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medalist Team Canada) and I saw the responses to her call for action and I noticed that there was a Paramedic from Timmins who had said “we need some PPE up in Timmins”. I reached out to him directly and said, I’ll help as much on this end in Toronto and if I have too, I’ll head up there myself, and that’s how I went to Hayley and said how do I get involved in this?” Said Campbell

Campbell’s delivery package consisted of 600 N95 Masks.

DR. Stephen Morgan, who is a Physician and Medical Director for the Timmins and District Hospital, was one of the Doctors there to welcome Campbell and accept his delivery.

“It’s amazing that we can get Personal Protective Equipment that’s really usable. We have a lot of very well needing selfless people out there that want to donate to us. But this is a donation of equipment that we can really use and it’s really helpful. It’s really meaningful because, Jamie has that history with Timmins and he really went to bat for us.” Said DR. Morgan.

Morgan also added that this delivery is also helpful because the hospital has seen between 4-6 weeks of PPE shipment delays.

“Everyone is short on supplies. We all have a little bit of equipment that can last a few weeks, but we’re all just waiting for that moment where we are just swamped with patients and then that’s where we really need it… That’s when a donation like this really helps a lot you know, for those times that are really unexpected.” Said Morgan

“We are running into a lot of delays, and of course, any interruptions of supplies is worrisome regardless where it comes from. I definitely understand looking out for your own and things like that but, this is something that we are all dealing with… and it is nice to see you know, if there was more coordination between us and the United Sates, or any other country and other companies so that these supply lines aren’t cut off” -Added Morgan.

Campbell’s next pit stop will be in Cochrane and will wrap up his trip in Sudbury.
