In honor of Black Sabbath’s groundbreaking debut studio album in 1970, Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde and his tribute band Zakk Sabbath have marked the historic 50th anniversary of the self titled album by covering the entire LP.

Until Black Sabbath came around, only a few artists were exploring new ways to make their music edgier. What Black Sabbath did that no other band or musician was doing successfully at the time, was bring Rock N’ Roll into a new realm of darkness entirely.

“Forever my all-time favorite band. The doom and gloom, elegant darkness, terrifying lyrics, destructive riffs, political and social metaphors, and the longevity of which Iommi kept the band running are completely admirable.” – Dennis_Sema on Instagram

Zakk Wylde and his bandmates- bassist Blasko, who also plays in Osbourne’s solo band, and drummer Joey Castillo – decided to pay tribute to the forefathers of Heavy Metal by recording their 50th Anniversary tribute album the same way as Black Sabbath did: Live in studio.

Zakk Sabbath have named their homage album Vertigo as a tip of the hat to the label that released the original debut LP.  You can listen now to the Zakk Sabbath’s rendition of the song that started it all: Black Sabbath.

The full tribute album is expected to drop September 4th, ONLY as CD or vinyl with no digital release, and you can preorder Vertigo HERE.
