**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged 3 local male young offenders with a number of assault
related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of
Tuesday, July 21st at the intersection of Cedar Street North and Fifth Avenue in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a matter where a 17 year old male person and a 15
year old female person were assaulted by the 3 male young offenders in what appears to be an
unprovoked altercation.

Both persons sustained serious injury during the assault that required medical treatment at the
Timmins and District Hospital.

All three young offenders were identified, located and arrested by the Timmins Police Service
later that same day and remain in police custody at present.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, two 13 year old male persons and a
16 year old male person, none of whom can be named pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice
Act, have been charged respectively with:

– Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Assault Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The 16 year old male young offender is further charged with an additional count of:

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

One of the 13 year old male young offenders is further charged with an additional count of:
– Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The remaining 13 year old male young offender is additionally charged with:

– 3 counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of
Canada
– Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

All three accused persons remain in police custody while awaiting a bail hearing slated for this
morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to their respective charges.
