**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2020
The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting no new cases. At this time, the current number of confirmed positive cases is now 81, six of which remain active.
Parents have been preparing their children for back to school for awhile now. They may be not be discussing how important the public health measures are to reduce the risk of COVID-19 as often. In reality, kids are resilient and can often recover quickly from the virus. The concern is what happens when they come home, and they bring it to their parents or elderly loved ones.
We need to keep talking about the steps we all need to take. Think about the time you learned how to cross the street. Did your parents tell you once what to do and leave you to it? Hopefully not! What we need to encourage these behaviours so they become natural and routine. When teaching safety to children, talk about it often, keep watching, observe, and make sure they’re consistent in those behaviours.
In order to keep COVID-19 out of schools, we need to work together to keep it out of our community altogether. Take steps to protect yourself and your children from COVID-19. Continue to wash your hands often, practice coughing and sneezing etiquette, maintain physical distancing, and wear a face covering in indoor public spaces and outdoors when physical distancing is a challenge.
Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818 or the PHU office in your community. See phu.fyi/offices for local contact numbers.
